Words From The Road

Chest infections, graduation, and a late addition to the EI Bike team

Firstly, I’d like to explain my recent recruit to the EI bike team. My dad used to joke about his buddies being on the Employment Insurance Ski Team, where they worked seasonal jobs in the summer and ski bummed around BC during the winter. Although I’m sure all of these people were desperately trying to find winter work, they were unable to and instead, had to settle for a winter of skiing. Sounds miserable. (Then all of a sudden they were having their 40th birthday party). Anyway, since I am currently not working, and out of...

Pros & Joe's go Stateside

When catching up with my long time high school buddy Peter Disera (Name drop!!), he mentioned he was flying solo on a road camp, and invited me join him in California. As good as that sounded, I couldn't make the dates work, and he said he was also going to Carolina for a week of Mountain Biking and suggested I come along. Although I hadn’t MTB’d in years, this past summer I picked up a trail bike and had tons of fun the few times I rode it. Anyway I took Peter up on his offer and agreed to go.

So That’s A Wrap

Ascent Cycling’s Final Words From The Road provided by our very own Mike Little   Well, after a bucket full of race days, countless dropped energy gels (actually, probably about eleven), and more sugar water than we’d like to consider, the 2017 road racing season has come to an end.  This season was an important…

I guess we are going to call ourselves a crit squad (July 2017)

I guess we are going to call ourselves a crit squad (July 2017)

Prior to Ontario’s “Speed Weekend”  I think it’s fair to say that as a group we have failed to race in a way that represented our potential. After this past weekend I think (praying) we have finally turned the corner. Recap by Eric Johnston In early June, I crashed and got my first ever concussion……

An “easy” group ride never stays easy.

An “easy” group ride never stays easy.

Today we finally got the whole team together with our sponsors and supporters fir a long overdue ride. The ride started at Neworld Cycle in Burlington, which is one of Ontario’s Elite bicycle boutiques and a key supporter of Ascent Cycling, The group was a mix of the Ascent riders, Neworld shop riders, and our…

You haven't gotten rid of us yet

Crit season is coming, and we are excited.

Between efforts on my training ride today (I couldn’t make it to the race)  I refreshed racetiming.ca constantly until the results of the elite race came up, hoping my teammates did something special. Alot Can Change in a Week

Between efforts on my training ride today (I couldn’t make it to the race)  I refreshed racetiming.ca constantly until the results of the elite race came up, hoping my teammates did something special.

Two things special happened, Keith (new to the team) had won the cat 3 race, and now surely will be granted an upgrade joining the rest of the guys for his first race with us at Preston street. As I refreshed the results I was happy to see great rides from good friends and training partners Steve McKee and PJ (salad fingers) Kings finishing...

Timbits Win Bike Races

Timbits Win Bike Races

This blog post has a touch of irony. Eric had sent a draft of a blog, written about his experience at the Steve Bauer Classic. As you will find out, the conclusion left Eric less than satisfied. Despite that, within 24 hours, he accomplish a massive goal that had been eluding both the team and himself. Anyone that has ridden with or against Eric knows that this result has been a long time coming, the guy lays it on the line at every opportunity and does not shy away from hitting the wind. So grab some couch, crack an adult...

Cannondale Super Six Evo Red Ascent Cycling team bike on pier in California

Mark's words from the road:

People who know me well know that I’m Dutch...not just in nationality but also in spending habits. This means that my vacations or training camps for the last few years have been, well….affordable. So it was with some hesitation that I let Miriam talk me into a flight down to South California. A vacation soon turned into “how many miles can we jam into eight days?”
